Our Board of Governors provides invaluable service to the hospital meets monthly and is comprised of Shriners from these seven centers.
A gift to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Los Angeles makes a positive difference in the life of a child in need of orthopaedic, burn or cleft lip/palate care. In fact, Shriners Hospitals for Children is funded entirely through the generosity of our donors, past and present.
All care and services are provided without charge to the patient and family, and no payments are sought or received from any insurance company or state and federal government agency. Since opening our doors, more than 40,000 children have been helped through our hospitals. Shriners Hospitals for Children depends upon gifts and bequests from our donors to continue its mission. The wishes of the donor are paramount in our use of their contribution. Most donors, however, choose to support our hospital program without restriction. In recognition of our donor's generosity, our donor wall highlights those individuals, families, organizations and business that have contributed significant amounts to SHC-LA.
HELPING KIDS DEFY THE ODDS
Our philosophy of care is one of treating the whole child and not only their physical ailments. All staff members are committed to providing quality, family centered health care for their patients and their families. The hospital offers on-site physical and occupational therapists to assist the young patient in achieving and maintaining their maximum functional level. Child life and recreational therapists are on staff to prepare the patient and their families for surgery. Learning sessions and medical play areas are provided to speed recovery and enhance the use of muscular skeletal functions. Staff members also provide activities and outings into the community to enhance patients' social interaction skills and clinical social workers provide therapy to patients and their families tailored to their medical condition.
Our facility is equipped and staffed to provide care for virtually all pediatric orthopaedic and burn scarring cases. Children up to age 18 are eligible for admission to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Admission is based solely on a child's medical needs, regardless of financial need and without regard to race, color, creed, sex and sect.
